A drunk grandfather who hurled racist abuse at passengers on a Birmingham bound plane has been jailed.

A smirking armed robber who held up five bookies in a fortnight-long reign of terror has been jailed.

A shameless mum has been jailed for stashing a loaded handgun − one used to kill a man six years ago − in the Birmingham home she shared with her two young children.

And a lying takeaway worker has been jailed after he sparked a major armed police operation by claiming he had been kidnapped at gunpoint.

Greg Irvin, 26, a cocaine user, was convicted of murder following a trial at Wolverhampton crown court.

The body of Anne James, 74, was found by a neighbour at her home in Walsall in February of this year.

Irvin was ordered to serve at least 24 years behind bars for her murder.

Vile Shannon Wright carried out a week-long crime blitz at Sir Josiah Mason Trust in Solihull , a housing accommodation for people who need round-the-clock care.

The 22-year-old, who appears to be pouting in her police mug shot, stole cash and sentimental belongings.

She even swiped a plant pot which was discovered outside her home in Anson Grove, Acocks Green, when officers when to arrest her.

A speeding unqualifed driver who killed his passenger when he crashed into a BMW has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

Tyrone Barnes was estimated by witnesses to have been doing up to 90mph before the collision .

He carried out several dangerous overtaking manoeuvres and also smashed into the central reservation.

Barnes, 29 , of Skidmore Avenue, Wolverhampton , had previously admitted causing the death of 22-year-old Ethan Mornan-Jones by dangerous driving.

Sarweeth Rehman and Hussun Ashraf

These are the faces of a pair of violent thugs who battered a motorist - then set about causing £10,000-worth of damage to his BMW M4.

CCTV captured the moment the duo - responsible for a string of vicious car robberies across Birmingham and Solihull - hit the driver with a golf club and metal bar.

Sarweeth Rehman and Hussun Ashraf were jailed for their parts in the plot, which saw mainly women drivers targeted in a series of terrifying carjackings.

The pair, both aged 22, attacked motorists with golf clubs , baseball bats or metal bars before driving off in high-end cars. Watch the brutally violent attacks in the below video.

A disqualified driver reached speeds of 94 mph with his lights off in a late night police chase through Birmingham , which was only brought to a halt after police forced to crash into him.

Kassim Mohammed was on the run from police after a previous incident where he drove in excess of 130mph on the M6.

Mohammed, 26, of Eversley Road, Bordesley Green, had pleaded guilty to two charges of dangerous driving and to driving whilst disqualified, was jailed for 22 months and banned from the roads for three years and 11 months.

Robert Edwards, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court , said on September 25 this year, police were called by a worried member of the public at around 10.30pm, who was concerned by about three to four men congregated by a parked Ford Fiesta in Druids Heath.

Raymond Martin

Raymond Martin was sentenced to two years in prison after beating his ex-girlfriend outside Kings Norton Train Station

A roofer from Birmingham has been jailed for brutally beating his ex-girlfriend in a drunk-fuelled attack outside Kings Norton Train Station.

Raymond Martin, 31, who previously pleaded guilty to a charge of assault, was sentenced to two years in prison after being caught on CCTV kicking and delivering a “hammer fist blow” to the head of his former partner as she sat on a bollard outside the station on September 25.

A court heard how Martin was involved with an “animated” discussion with his former partner at around 7.50pm in which he became “verbally aggressive” towards her.

Robert Edwards, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court , said CCTV of the incident showed the defendant making “throat slitting gestures” towards his partner before he striking her so hard she fell backwards off the bollard and onto the floor.

Ashley Caddick

A thug with a 'Wolverhampton accent' forced his way into a house - threatening the occupant with a handgun before fleeing with an iPhone6.

Ashley Caddick, aged 33, has been jailed for 11 years following the incident , in the early hours of January 10, 2017.

The victim had gone to bed at around 10.30pm on January 9 and had been woken by a blow to the head.

He awoke to see a stocky man in a black beanie hat, black jacket and joggers and dark trainers, pointing a handgun at this face from two feet away.

Anna Sobczak and Pawel Sampolski

A pair of would-be thieves have been jailed after a handgun was fired in a 'nasty' armed robbery on a Jewellery Quarter recording studio.

Anna Sobczak, of Cambridge Way, Birmingham, and Pawel Sampolski, of Marsh Hill Erdington, were convicted of the attempted robbery at Birmingham Crown Court.

On April 30 this year, police were called to reports of an armed robbery in Barr Street, Hockley.

Two people inside the studio had been violently assaulted after being hit with a gun and threatened for property.

Drone smuggling gang

A gang which flew more than half a million pounds worth of drugs into UK prisons in the largest drone smuggling operation has been jailed for 37 years.

Fifteen offenders - all from the Black Country and Birmingham - flew Class A drugs, mobile phones and steroids into jails all over the country including HMP Birmingham.

Ringleader Lee Anslow - who is the nephew of notorious drugs kingpin John Anslow - headed-up the huge contraband network from behind bars.

The 31-year-old orchestrated around half of all flights from his prison cell at HMP Hewell, Redditch.

A drug lord who ran a £35 million crime empire has been jailed for 24 years.

Police found a huge stash of loaded weapons, cash and drugs.

Ivan Graham, aged 35, of Whetstone Drive, Rugby, was dubbed 'Mr Big' by neighbours, reports the Coventry Telegraph

A police raid at a home owned by Graham uncovered four terrifying loaded weapons including a Uzi sub-machine gun fitted with a silencer, a Walther PPK .22 calibre pistol, a Smith and Wesson .38 calibre revolver and a stun gun disguised as a firearm.

Steven Christian

A student who raped a woman and told her: "This is what university is like" has been locked up for five years .

Steven Christian, from Solihull, attacked the victim in her room at Keele University after a pub quiz in September last year.

The 20-year-old had been a student ambassador during the evening, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard.

The victim was left so traumatised that she now made herself vomit, jurors were told.

Eamonn Doyle

A Staffordshire man has been handed a 26 year jail term for the sickening rape and sexual assault of two young girls.

Eamonn Doyle, aged 66, was sentenced on Monday (October 22) at Stafford Crown Court after being found guilty of the rape of the girls, who were both under 13 when the vile attacks took place .

Doyle, who is known as Paul, of Coulthwaite Way, Rugeley, assaulted the youngsters between 2002 and 2017 in Rugeley, Staffordshire.

He was found guilty of three counts of rape of a girl under 13, two counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration and one count of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching.

Stefan Phillip

A budding entrepreneur has been jailed after launching a brutal attack on a train revenue officer - because he fined him for travelling without buying a ticket.

Stefan Phillip battered his victim at Snow Hill Station leaving him with broken ribs and a 5cm hole in his skull.

Birmingham Crown Court was told Phillip was angry after ticket revenue officer Mohammed Siddique fined him £20 after discovering he hadn't bought a ticket on February 21 this year.

Then on February 26 the 29-year-old saw Mr Siddique walking in the concourse of Snow Hill Station as he was just finishing his shift.

He ran at him from behind and shoved him with force into an advertising billboard causing his skull to be exposed with a 5cm gash and causing him to crack two ribs.

Phillip, from Navigation Street, in the Jewellery Quarter, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday where he had pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 20 months.

Rebaz Kamal, Shabana Bibi, Abdul Alshameri, Shabaz Kamal, Abderrahman Chouhaib, Awaas Aftab, Tabean Abdullah, Andam Rasol, Adam Ijaz

Nine people have been sentenced over their parts in a mass brawl in Birmingham in which a Syrian refugee was killed.

The eight men and one woman were charged after clashes in Highgate two years ago when Ibrahim Ismail was stabbed to death .

No-one has been arrested over 23-year-old Mr Ismail's death.

At Birmingham crown court on Monday the group of people who Mr Ismail was with on that fateful night were either jailed or received suspended prison terms over the brawl.

Roger Bannister

A driver who killed a child and a father-of-three - while injuring three others in a horrific crash has been jailed .

Roger Bannister, 41, had been driving on a country lane in Frankley Green when he smashed into another car.

Bannister's five-year-old boy and Mohammed Shakeel tragically died shortly after the collision on Ravenhayes Lane.

Two others, Shakeel's son and Bannister's wife were seriously injured .

A Mercedes driver was high on cannabis when his speeding car hit and killed a teenage university student.

James Wilson, 20, has now been jailed for six years over the death of much-loved Charlie Heywood in Great Barr.

He was found guilty of causing the death of the 19-year-old whist driving under the influence of drugs at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (October 19).

Wilson, of Chudleigh Grove, Great Barr, will also be banned from driving for six years when he is released . He will also have to resit a driving test.

An evil family who imprisoned a vulnerable mother and her daughter and used them as domestic slaves have been jailed for nearly 50 years.

The two victims were subjected to “sadistic” violence during their ordeal.

On Friday, wheelchair-bound gran Jean Kelly was jailed for 14 years at Warwick Crown Court, reports CoventryLive.

The 53-year-old grandmother forced a mum and her daughter - who both had learning difficulties - to eat uncooked pasta and they were horrifically beaten.

William Jones

A courageous woman chased a robber for 20 minutes before knocking at a house he sought refuge in - to demand the cash back.

Recorder Geoffrey Kelly praised the actions of Shauna Campbell who jumped over fences and walls in Winson Green a bid to keep up with crook William Jones.

She never gave thought for her own safety as she chased him to a house and then banged on the door to demand the stolen cash be returned.

When he refused, she alerted the police who came and arrested him .

Jones, who has a record of 81 offences and 35 convictions to his name, pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery when he appeared before video link at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday. He was jailed for 90 weeks.

Cocaine gang

An Albanian crime lord who headed up a multi-million pound UK-wide cocaine racket has been jailed for 25 years.

Erald Mema, 33, ran a network which traded drugs from Birmingham to the Black Country and to Oxford, London and Bristol.

He was convicted of two conspiracies to supply cocaine, between June 1 2016 and December 2 2016.

A jury took nine hours and 12 minutes to find the 33-year-old guilty.

His drugs gang has now received a total 150 years in jail sentences.

Mohammed Abtidon-Hassan

A "dangerous" thug serving a ten-year jail sentence has been handed more prison time over a brutal attack on an inmate who refused to pay protection money.

Mohammed Abtidon-Hassan was part of a gang who beat up Matthew Trueman when he ignored their demands for cash at Swinfen Hall Young Offender Institution, near Lichfield .

The victim was led into a cell and punched in the face by Abtidon-Hassan before he was repeatedly kicked and stamped as he lay on the floor.

Mr Trueman, who feared for his life, blacked out in the attack, which happened in February last year.

Abtidon-Hassan, 21, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent at Warwick Crown Court . He was given a five-year extended prison term, on top of his previous sentence.

Michael Cosco

A train pervert who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old schoolgirl and deliberately rubbed his groin against a woman during a string of offences in Birmingham has been caged.

Michael Cosco, of Halesowen Road, Cradley Heath , molested three women across the local rail network from February to April.

The 63-year-old, who pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault at Wolverhampton Crown Court, first “violated” an 18-year-old woman on the Birmingham to Sutton Coldfield service .

He stood next to the victim and rubbed himself against her shoulder on March 13, making the victim feel uncomfortable.

Robbie Roden

A teenage biker had to have part of his leg amputated after his friend ploughed into him while “showing off” in his powerful car.

Luke Ferguson, 19, also sustained a life changing head injury and was in a coma for two weeks after an Audi driven by Robbie Roden hit him.

Roden, 19, of Camden Street, Walsall Wood , has now been jailed for 16 months after he admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving .

He was also banned from the roads for three years and two months.

Ganga Siriwardhana

A Solihull businessman used a fake ID to arrange dates with university students - then drugged them in an attempt to lure them into sex.

Ganga Siriwardhana arranged separate dates with the women in Birmingham city centre in April and May last year, after speaking to them over Chinese social media.

The 51-year-old then spiked the drinks of the students - who were both from China - with clozapine which can lead to severe drowsiness.

He was convicted after a trial and jailed at Birmingham Crown Court last Friday (October 12).

A driver has been jailed after he ploughed head-on into an oncoming car because he thought he was on a motorway slip lane instead of an ordinary road.

Mitchell Cox caused life-changing injuries to the other driver when he stayed in what he thought was the outside lane.

And a judge heard that victim Ian Stoddart could have been burned alive had he not been pulled clear as the two cars burst into flames.

Mr Stoddart, aged 53 and from Tamworth, suffered a string of serious injuries, including multiple fractures to both legs and his collarbone, 22 broken ribs, collapsed lungs and ruptures to his liver and a kidney.

Grant Samed

The inmate who led the massive Birmingham Prison riot said it happened because he was treated like an "animal".

Grant Samed said he was denied his antipsychotic medication before the violence which trashed large parts of the jail - causing more than £6 million-worth of damage - in December 2016.

But he said he couldn't remember exactly what happened because he was "extremely mentally unwell".

Samed was jailed for six years for his role in the riot , which saw 500 prisoners left to roam the jail in the worst prison violence for almost 30 years .

Arthur Murray

A registered sex offender who was released from prison after more than 20 years is back behind bars after police found a film of him sexually abusing a teenager.

Arthur Murray, of Newton Drive, Lozells , was caught after West Midlands Police ’s online child sexual exploitation team acted on new intelligence received earlier this year.

He was also found sharing indecent images of boys via his mobile phone.

Murray has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court to serve a minimum of six-and-a-half years before being considered for parole.

Anthony Battle and James Murphy

A stop and search on the M6 led to £20,000 worth of drugs being discovered - hidden in a petrol can.

Anthony Battle was acting as a courier, driving 1.9kg of amphetamines from Liverpool down to the south coast.

His Ford Kuga was stopped at Hilton services in south Staffordshire by officers from Central Motorway's Policing Group on April 5, 2017.

Forensic work on the amphetamine wraps led officers to another man, James Murphy.

Both men were jailed at Stafford Crown Court on October 11, 2018.

Brie Rutherford-Martell and Ahkeel Janny-Andrews

Two teenagers who supplied heroin and crack cocaine into south Staffordshire have been jailed.

Brie Rutherford-Martell, aged 19, and Ahkeel Janny-Andrews, aged 18, were stopped by police on 23 June 2018 at the Station Café, in Hednesford.

The court heard that both men tried to evade the police after ordering breakfast, but were quickly detained.

In total they had 91 wraps of heroin and 42 wraps of crack cocaine on them, with a street value of £2,200.

Khaled Othmani

A baseball bat thug who brutally beat a pedestrian who stepped out in front of his car was snared by his Facebook picture.

Khaled Othmani armed himself with the bat before he and one of his passengers launched a savage attack on their hapless victim .

The innocent pedestrian, who had simply been walking to his girlfriend’s home, was left with severe fractures to his shoulder blade and collarbone which had to be fixed with metal plates.

But he found one of his attackers after Othmani’s profile unexpectedly popped up as someone he might know on Facebook , Warwick Crown Court heard.

Othmani, 19, of Abbey Green, Nuneaton , was jailed for 10 years after the jury convicted him of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent to cause serious injury.

Raza Rafiq

This smirking burglar has finally been jailed - after police used social media to track him down.

Callous Raza Rafiq approached an elderly woman and pretended to work for BT during a distraction burglary on July 23 in Walsall .

West Midlands Police said he fraudulently took a bank card from the pensioner's home in Birchills.

The 39-year-old then used the card to withdraw cash and buy himself a new phone.

Dion Williams

Police swooped on a Birmingham housing office after a man wearing body armour ‘threatened to blow the place up.’

And when officers searched Dion Williams they found he had a rucksack containing two knives, a meat cleaver and a copy of the Koran.

Williams, 33 of Hubert Road, Selly Oak , was jailed for three years after he previously admitted three charges of possessing bladed articles.

Judge Nicholas Webb described the case as “disturbing.”

Paul Adney

A drunk grandfather who hurled racist abuse at passengers on a Birmingham bound plane has been jailed.

Paul Adney, who had been drinking all day and night before boarding the plane, also shouted “I am a boxer. I have a gun so I can kill you if I want to”.

The 53-year-old upset families with young children with his ranting, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Adney, of Stratford Road, Shirley , who had previously admitted being drunk on an aircraft, was sentenced to six months in prison.

A smirking armed robber who held up five bookies in a fortnight-long reign of terror has been jailed .

James Martin threatened staff with a fake gun and fled with cash from the tills as he struck across Birmingham, stealing £6,000.

But he was caught because he took the same Amazon Prime bag with him and wore a motorbike helmet on each raid.

Martin, 31, of Flaxley Road, Stechford , was jailed for 15 years.

Victim Simon Butler almost died as a result of the horror wound which narrowly missed a major artery.

Unemployed roofer Adrian Byrne, 54, was jailed for nine years after admitted wounding with intent.

Birmingham Crown Court heard the defendant and victim were neighbours and lived in Abbeyfield Road, Erdington.

A shameless mum has been jailed for stashing a loaded handgun − one used to kill a man six years ago − in the Birmingham home she shared with her two young children.

The organised crime and gangs police team raided Selina Jarrett’s home in Bellevue, Edgbaston , on March 16 after a tip-off suggesting she was storing a firearm at the address.

Officers subsequently found a Glock semi-automatic gun loaded with six bullets stuffed inside a sock in a hallway cupboard.

Ballistics experts from NABIS − the National Ballistics Intelligence Service − test fired the pistol and microscopic examination of the bullet markings indicated the same weapon was used in the fatal shooting of Malakai McKenzie in Nottingham on April 21, 2012.

A lying takeaway worker has been jailed after he sparked a major armed police operation by claiming he had been kidnapped at gunpoint.

Choudhary Rasool, 29, had dialled 999 and claimed he was being held in a flat.

Police scrambled an armed response unit and the area was sealed off.

He told the call-handler he had been threatened, and that one man had a gun and another a knife.

Barbara Fielding-Morriss

A 79-year-old election candidate who stirred up anti-Semitic hatred, calling for "new and better death camps", has been jailed.

Barbara Fielding-Morriss, whose manifesto praised Adolf Hitler and likened Jews and immigrants to termites, was given a 12-month prison sentence after a judge condemned her lack of remorse for the "vile" offences.

Fielding-Morriss, who stood as a candidate in Stoke-on-Trent Central during last year's by-election and general election, was convicted in June of three offences of stirring up racial hatred between September 2016 and February last year.

Passing sentence at Stafford Crown Court, Recorder Julian Taylor said Fielding-Morriss, who represented herself in court, had "not helped her cause" by offering anti-Semitic mitigation.

Daniel Cheslin

This is the shocking moment a thug pulled his dog into a lift so hard that its front teeth were smashed .

And after the vicious attack the girlfriend of pet owner Daniel Cheslin was seen smiling and laughing on CCTV, Birmingham Crown Court was told.

The camera also recorded other acts of cruelty inflicted on the Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Rudy.

It was last July that a CCTV operator alerted the RSPCA to the lift attack in a block of flats in Solihull. Watch the video which sparked the alert above.
