Independence Cup: 15 Winners Emerge in Glo-sponsored Kaduna Golf Tourney

Fifteen winners emerged over the weekend at the Independence Golf Cup Tournament organised by the Kaduna Golf Club and sponsored by grandmaster of data, Globacom.

The Kaduna Independence Golf Cup featured a rich field of very talented amateurs drawn from the Kaduna Golf Club and other clubs in Kaduna, Zaria, Jos, Abuja and environs.
The overall winner of the day was Jamilu Ibrahim who picked the trophy in Category (Cat) One (Handicap 0-9) and who scored 68 under par to beat Philip Usani to second place with 72 under par and Ubale Shuaibu to third place with a 79 under par.

The Kaduna Independence Golf tourney is an annual event that attracts highly placed individuals, including Governors, Emirs, Legislators and other VIPs.

This year’s event was no less colourful drawing the crème de la crème of golf enthusiasts and VIPs from the Kaduna environment. The special guest of honour at the event was Major General Adeniyi Oyelade, General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Kaduna.

Other winners in the Independence Tourney included Vera David, (73 under par) who was best in the Ladies Cat (full Handicap). She beat Justina Gideon (78 under par) and Ivy Achir (95 under par) to first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
In Category 2 (Handicap 10-19) winner was Segun Aremu (68 points), Runner up was Emmanuel Owoicho (70 points) and Best gross and 2nd runner up was Gambo Peter (84 points).

Idris Marwa (68 points) won in Category III ( Handicap 20-28) beating Abdullahi Garba with (73 points) and Idris Araga with 98 points to 2nd and 3rdplaces respectively.

There was also a Veterans Category (FULL Handicap) which produced the Pro Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. S.U. Abdullahi (72 points) as winner. Shehu Yaro (75 points) and Adamu Yusuf (85 points) were 2nd and 3rdrespectively.

The Kaduna Golf Club with 750 members is the first Golf Club in Northern Nigeria. It is an 18-hole course built in 1921, and it has hosted such tournaments as Nigeria Open Golf Championship, KRPC Amateur Open Golf Championship and National Open Championship.

Globacom has in the past been backing various Golf tournaments around the country including the President Cup Golf Championship at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja and the West African Glo Golf Tour which was played across five locations around the country with players from Ghana, Senegal, Cameroun and other African Countries.
