I’M JERE GISH BOY, THIS IS BRIGHT AND EARLY. IT’S SO NICE TO SEE YOU HERE WITH ME AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF DOING MORNINGS. IT’S BEEN A WHILE. IT CERTAINLY HAS. GOOD TO HAVE YOU, THOUGH. YEAH. ALONGSIDE METEOROLOGIST AT MARYELLEN PANN. GREAT TO BE HERE. YEAH. BOY, I ENJOYED YESTERDAY. I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE DID. SO MANY PEOPLE. I SAW MOTORCYCLE RIDERS, GOLFERS, PEOPLE, GOLFERS. YEAH. IT WAS JUST ANYTHING YOU COULD DO OUTDOORS. REALLY NICE. GREAT DAY. NOW TODAY WE WILL SEE A LITTLE MORE CLOUD COVER. TEMPERATURES WON’T BE AS WARM, BUT THEY’RE STILL GOING TO BE WELL ABOVE AVERAGE, SO WE CAN’T COMPLAIN. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE, EVEN THOUGH THERE MAY BE SOME SPOTTY SHOWERS HERE AND THERE, THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF DRY HOURS. SOME OF YOU MAY NOT EVEN SEE ANY RAIN AT ALL. AS WE CHECK OUT OUR HERSHEY SKY CAM, YOU CAN SEE THE FLAGS ALL BLOWING THERE. THERE IS A BIT OF A BREEZE OUT THERE. WE HAVE DRY CONDITIONS IN THIS LOCATION. OUR STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK SHOWING SOME SHOWERS IN OHIO. LIFTING TO THE NORTHEAST, AND THEY’LL SKIRT AROUND THE LOWER SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. BUT I CAN’T RULE OUT A SPOTTY SHOWER ANYTIME THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY. BUT AGAIN, I WANT TO EMPHASIZE MOST OF THE DAY IS DRY. SO GET OUTDOORS AND ENJOY THE MILD TEMPERATURES WHILE WE HAVE THEM NOW. RIGHT NOW WE HAVE WINDS OUT OF THE EAST WHERE YOU SEE THOSE 40S. 49 IN LANDISBURG, 45 IN ELIZABETHTOWN, 51 IN YORK. BUT WHERE WE HAVE 60S CHAMBERSBURG, GETTYSBURG, CROSS, ADAMS AND FRANKLIN COUNTY. WINDS ARE COMING IN FROM THE SOUTH. AND THE REASON FOR THAT IS WE HAVE A BACKDOOR COLD FRONT DRAPED ACROSS THE AREA. AND I’LL EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT THAT IN A LITTLE BIT. BUT HERE YOU CAN SEE THE WINDS ANYWHERE FROM 5 TO 15MPH. 12 HOUR FORECAST SHOWS THOSE CLOUDS WILL BE WITH US. A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE FROM HERE FROM TIME TO TIME THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY. HIGHS WILL CLIMB INTO THE LOW 70S SOME AREAS TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST. WE’LL SEE. UPPER 70S JUST DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU FALL AROUND THE FRONT. AND AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TODAY AND TOMORROW, SPOTTY TO FEW SHOWERS WITH THE BEST CHANCE COMING IN LATE AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING. AGAIN, SOME OF YOU MAY NOT SEE THEM AT ALL. WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT A LOT AT ALL. TEMPERATURES STAY WELL ABOVE AVERAGE TODAY AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW IS AN IMPACT DAY. I’LL TALK MORE ABOUT THE STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS THAT MAY THREATEN THE AREA. COMING UP IN MY FULL FORECAST. ALL RIGHT, MARY ELLEN, THANK YOU. THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IS CANCELING HALF $1 BILLION IN FEDERAL FOOD ASSISTANCE. FEEDING AMERICA SAYS IT’S ONE OF SEVERAL SOURCES OF FUNDING THAT THEIR NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF FOOD BANKS RELY ON. WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT JACKIE DEFUSCO FOUND OUT HOW SPENDING CUTS COULD IMPACT COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. WASHINGTON, D.C. S CAPITAL AREA FOOD BANK SAYS THEY’RE SCRAMBLING TO REPLACE ROUGHLY 670,000 MEALS. I DOUBT WE’D BE ABLE TO BRIDGE THAT GAP THROUGH OTHER SOURCES. A DAUNTING TASK ON A TIGHT TIMELINE. THIS WAS FOOD WE WERE PLANNING ON DISTRIBUTING AS EARLY AS THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO. 55 TRUCKLOADS CARRYING PROTEIN AND PRODUCE WERE PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE TO THIS FOOD BANK BETWEEN NOW AND JUNE. BUT BECAUSE OF RECENT SPENDING CUTS FROM THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION. I’M TOLD ROUGHLY HALF OF THOSE DELIVERIES HAVE BEEN CANCELED. LIKELY, THERE WILL BE LESS VARIETY OF FOOD IN THE SHORT TERM, AND PROBABLY LESS QUANTITIES. THAT’S BECAUSE THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE CANCELED $500 MILLION IN FUNDING FROM ONE PORTION OF THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. A USDA SPOKESPERSON WRITES IN A STATEMENT, QUOTE, THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION CREATED UNSUSTAINABLE PROGRAMING AND EXPECTATIONS USING THE COMMODITY CREDIT CORPORATION. STILL, THE AGENCY SAYS THEY REMAIN FOCUSED ON STRENGTHENING FOOD SECURITY AND OTHER FUNDING STREAMS CONTINUE, INCLUDING AN ADDITIONAL $261 MILLION THAT THEY SAY WAS RECENTLY APPROVED. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT USDA WILL DO EVERYTHING WITHIN THEIR POWER TO MAKE ADDITIONAL PURCHASES THROUGH THE OTHER FUNDING SOURCE. BUT FOR NOW, FEEDING AMERICA’S VINCE HALL IS EXPECTING IMPACTS ACROSS THEIR NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF FOOD BANKS, ESPECIALLY IN RURAL AREAS. FOOD BANKS HAVE NEVER SEEN THE KIND OF DEMAND THAT THEY’RE SEEING NOW, AND SO ANY DISRUPTION TO THE SUPPLY CHAIN OF FOOD COMING INTO THOSE FOOD BANKS REALLY JEOPARDIZES THEIR ABILITY TO SERVE THEIR COMMUNITIES. USDA ALSO RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THE END OF ANOTHER PROGRAM THAT PROVIDED FUNDING FOR FOOD BANKS TO PURCHASE FOOD FROM LOCAL FARMERS. THE AGENCY HAS SAID THAT THAT PROGRAM WAS CREATED DURING THE PANDEMIC, AND THAT IT NO LONGER ALIGNS WITH THEIR GOALS. REPORTING IN WASHINGTON I’M JACKIE DEFUSCO. AND THE USDA DECLINED OUR INTERVIEW REQUEST FOR THIS STORY, AS DID THE REPUBLICAN CHAIRS OF HOUSE AND SENATE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEES. AND THIS COMES AS THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IS ALSO TARGETING THE U.S. INSTITUTE OF PEACE. WORKERS AT THE AGENCY RECEIVED TERMINATION LETTERS ON FRIDAY. ONE WORKER SAYS THEY WERE TOLD THEIR MEDICAL BENEFITS WOULD END TOMORROW. THE INSTITUTE WAS FOUNDED DURING THE REAGAN ADMINISTRATION. IT PROMOTES RESEARCH, POLICY ANALYSIS, EDUCATION AND TRAINING ON INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION. THE AGENCY IS AN INDEPENDENT, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. CONGRESS APPROPRIATE
