People have paid tribute to their loved ones in the Liverpool ECHO's death notices.

Every day the ECHO print edition carries tributes in its death notices for those who have lost a loved one recently and our condolences go out to all. The announcements also often share information regarding funerals, fundraising and flowers.

Many of the tributes are for mums and daughters, dads and sons, friends and family members, but also to the health and care professionals who looked after their lost loved ones in their final days are also often featured. You can see the full list of family announcements by visiting the Liverpool ECHO section of our partner website funeral-notices.co.uk .

Here are the notices published in the Liverpool ECHO and online earlier this week.

Norman Henry BELL

Norman Henry Bell
Norman Henry Bell

Despite an austere working-class childhood Norman Bell enjoyed a highly successful military and academic career and a long and active retirement. Norman was an excellent scholar attending Liverpool Institute Grammar school. He was a chorister, a keen sportsman for whom a hundred-mile bicycle trip was routine, and was particularly keen on ballroom dancing. Norman served with bomber command at RAF Middleton St George and in his centenary year he returned there to lay a wreath as the base's last surviving WW2 veteran. Norman transferred to the RAF marine craft section in Scotland where he met his future wife, Jean. Anticipating victory in Europe, Jean and Norman were married in 1945. Three weeks later Norman was transferred to the far east arriving in Hong Kong via India the day before the Japanese surrender. He modestly refused to claim any credit for that. After the war he graduated from Liverpool University with a degree in classics. In his centenary year the University Alumni Society invited Norman to visit his 'alma mater' and to contribute to their 2021 memorial video. Norman entered teaching, with George Harrison amongst his more notable pupils, becoming a highly respected Headmaster of Colwell Road Primary. He was an enthusiastic advocate for Physical Education and as president of Liverpool Schools F.A. managed the City U11 team. Norman began watching Liverpool FC in 1928, nearly a hundred years later, in 2022, he was a guest of the club at the West Ham match at Anfield. Norman embraced retirement, running workshops offering advice about life after work, he established a painting group in the city and completed a degree in electronics. At West Derby Golf Club, he ran a retired members 10-hole competition devising his own fiendishly complex handicap system that ensured that everyone won at least one round every year. In 2021 W.D.G.C. named their club house in his honour. Granada Television coverage of the ceremony showed at 100yrs Norman could still make a speech and swing a golf club to very good effect. Norman was devoted to his wife Jean for 70 years and to Scotland her country of birth. Both were presidents of the Liverpool Burns Society and Norman was still able to join in the Scottish country dancing at his 100th birthday celebration. Norman remained able and ferociously independent to the last but was also hugely appreciative of the support of his local community. Norman always called Liverpool his home, but after his funeral at All Saints Church Childwall at 2.00pm on Wednesday 22nd June 2022 his remains, at his request, will be taken to Fort William in Scotland to be with those of his wife Jean and his son Bill. Norman was a much loved and respected father to Tom, grandfather to Niall, Jennie, Andrew and Jack and great grandfather to William.
