India lost the first two singles match of the Billie Jean King Cup to Latvia in the first singles match, India No. 1 Ankita Raina fought hard but eventually fell 2-6, 7-5, 5-7 to 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko

India’s Karman Kaur Thandi lost 6-4, 6-0 to Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in the second singles match of the day.

In other matches of the playoffs, Poland is tied 1-1 with Brazil, Great Britain leads Mexico 2-0, Canada leads Serbia 2-0, Ukraine leads Japan 2-0, Italy leads Romania 2-0, Argentina is tied 1-1 with Kazakhstan and Netherlands in tied 1-1 with China.

The eight winners of this round will qualify for the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifying Round while the eight losers will contest their respective regional Group, I event in 2022.

The 2020–21 Billie Jean King Cup is the 58th edition of the international women’s tennis team’s tournament and the first to be styled as the Billie Jean King Cup.
