B-CU bowler Shekinah Staten, a freshman from Daytona Beach, was one of 379 honored nationally with a GPA of 3.4 or higher.

The Bethune-Cookman University Women's Bowling team was recently recognized by the National TenPin Coaches Association for its classroom success with a 2019-2020 All-Academic Team Award.

The Lady Wildcats were one of 57 teams to carry a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher for the academic year.

"Excelling in the classroom is very important to me. Since I've been here we have wanted team GPA records and I know we will continue to improve moving forward," said B-CU coach Chelsea Gilliam.

“This is an honor I strive for my team and student-athletes to achieve every year. To achieve this during one of the toughest semesters we've all experienced says a lot about how hard the girls worked at home. I'm proud of them and can't wait to have them back on campus and back on the lanes."

Individually, Shekinah Staten, a freshman from Daytona Beach, was one of 379 honored nationally with a GPA of 3.4 or higher.

3 Stetson players named to ASUN All-Decade Team in women's golf

The Stetson University women's golf program opened the decade of the 2010s in dominant fashion. The Hatters won consecutive ASUN titles to open the decade, part of a three-year championship run.

Two of the key players during those early championship years Alexandria Buelow (Jacobsen) and Lauren Cate joined with more recent Hatters' standout Carolin Schart on the ASUN Women's Golf All-Decade team.

Buelow, who is married to another former Hatters golfer Micah Jacobsen, is the only golfer in ASUN history to earn three-straight Golfer of the Year titles (2010-12). She helped Stetson win the program's third-consecutive ASUN Championship crown in 2011 while taking home Medalist honors with an even-par 216.

She also added two second-place finishes in the ASUN Championship, in 2010 and 2012, becoming one-of-four Hatters to have at least three top-10 finishes in that event. The former Hatter also earned three First Team All-Conference selections and was voted the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012 and Freshman of the Year in 2010. Buelow also holds the ASUN record for most Golfer of the Week/Month selections with eight.

Buelow finished her career at Stetson with a 73.0 scoring average over 33 events. She played 23 of 90 rounds in competition under par and posted nine tournament victories to go with four seconds and six third place finishes.

Following her career at Stetson, Beulow spent four years on the LPGA Symetra Tour as well as the Eggland's Best Pro Tour. She also did some modeling as a representative of Coates Golf Clubs. She and Micah split their time now between Florida and Montana and both work as swing instructors.

Cate had three top-10 finishes at the ASUN Championship with her highest placement of second in 2009. She also helped the Hatters earn three consecutive ASUN Championship titles (2009-11). The former Stetson golfer is a three-time All-Conference selection and was tabbed the Freshman of the Year in 2009 along with earning a First Team nod.

During her four-year career at Stetson, Cate posted a 75.98 scoring average in 108 rounds. She had six rounds under par and 17 finishes in the top eight out of 41 total events.

Cate currently works as an accountant for Pegasus Technologies in the Jacksonville area and also serves as the Academy Manager for the Tom Burnett Golf Academy in St. Augustine.

Schart played at Stetson toward the end of the decade and was the 2018 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was a three-time All-Academic Team member and earned two top-10 finishes at the ASUN Championship. In 2016 she finished seventh with a score of 225 and in 2018 she tied for fifth with a score of 151 in a rain-shortened event. The former Hatter holds the most All-Academic Team selections of any Stetson player in ASUN history.

Schart completed her Stetson career with a 75.78 scoring average over 85 rounds of play. She posted seven rounds under par and had eight career top-10 finishes.

After finishing her collegiate playing career, Schart earned a third place finish at the 2018 Florida Women's Amateur championship before finishing 11th at the Luxembourg International Amateur Championship and then finishing second at the 2018 Polish Ladies' Open Amateur.

In addition to her accomplishments as a player, Schart completed her Master's degree in Management at the IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, earlier this year. She graduated in the top five percent of her class. She is currently working as a Risk Analyst Intern at Deutsche Bundesbank in Munich, Germany.
