WHO ARE THE SUPER-RICH TYCOONS BEHIND THE MEGA YACHTS ON THE RIVER THAMES?

Joe Lewis, 80, was born above a pub in Bow, London, and left school aged 15 to help his family build up a catering firm, which they sold in 1979.

He used the money to become a currency trader, which was how he earned his current extraordinary wealth of around £4billion.

In 1992, Mr Lewis joined George Soros to bet against the pound and profit in the 'Black Wednesday' crash.

As well as his home in the Bahamas, Mr Lewis owns property in Argentina, Florida and Bulgaria.

He lives on his yachts for months at a time and is said to have artwork by Paul Cezanne and Picasso on board.

Mr Lewis is nicknamed 'The Boxer' after his near-namesake, the US heavyweight boxing champion Joe Louis.

As well as him owning a Premier League football team, he also enjoys golf and is good friends with Tiger Woods.

He has been married twice and has two children by his first wife, daughter Vivienne and son Charles.

Sir Lloyd Dorfman, 65, is the owner of Travelex, the world's largest foreign exchange firm.

He started out in business aged 24 with a small currency exchange in London before expanding into central Europe but his breakthrough came in 1986 when he was awarded a contract for Heathrow's then new Terminal 4, becoming the first non-bank to run an exchange at the airport.

Sir Lloyd has also invested in the Office Group, which provides work space for small businesses and start-up companies and was previously chairman of the firm until last year when it was sold for £500million.

He is also a keen sailor and supporter of the arts, and is a director of the London Theatre Company and Ben Ainslie Racing’s America’s Cup Challenge, while he also serves as a business advisor to London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Sir Lloyd has been chairman of the Prince's Trust charity which works to get young people aged 11-30 into education and jobs and he was knighted this year in The Queen's birthday honours for services to philanthropy and the arts.

He is married to Lady Sarah Dorfman and has three children.
