Top foreign players coming for golf meet

Dar es Salaam. Kenya’s highly-rated golfer Michael Mbugua is among foreign players that have so far confirmed their participation in this year’s Moshi Open Championship.

The much anticipated tournament will feature amateur and professional golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and hosts Tanzania.

Mbugua, one of the best golfers in Kenya, says nothing would stop him from claiming the Moshi Open title.

The other Kenyan players lined up for the much anticipated championship are Jack Kitulu, John Kimondo, Kennedy Ngumba, Adam Boru, Michael Mbugua and Anthony Kahure, according to the event’s organisers.

Organised by Moshi Gymkhana Club, the 36-hole championship will take place at the club’s course from May 26 to 27.

The two-day event has been sanctioned by Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and sponsored by Kibo Palace Hotel and Kibo Group of Companies.

Moshi Gymkhana Club captain Chris Martin told the Citizen from Moshi yesterday that preparations for the event were on course.

Martin said they are delighted that two more sponsors have come forward to join Kibo Palace in supporting the annual tournament.

He said the companies have joined the fray as event co-sponsors. He named them as Sea Cliff Resort and Spa Zanzibar and Moshi’s Bonite Bottlers Limited.

He added that it was nice to see Moshi Open continue to attract more sponsors.

“The door is still open for other firms and individuals wishing to sponsor the Moshi Open Championship, which is now one of the major golf competitions in Tanzania,” said Martin.

“We have extended invitations to many golf clubs, including Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Arusha gymkhana clubs,” he said.

According to Martin, Lugalo and TPC clubs will also field players in the event.

He said fabulous prizes will be up for grabs during the championship. The awards will go to the Division A net, Division B, Division A, Ladies, Senior and Juniors net winners.

Local players tipped to sparkle at the event include Victor Joseph, Aman Said, Rehema Athumani, Vick Elias, Isaack Wanyeche, John Robert, Adam Said, Angel Eaton,Noel Mheni and Pravin Singh

Others are Nichoraus Chitanda, Chiku Elias, Sara Dennis, Josephat Masai, Petar Fiwa, Sophia Mathias and Chriss Martin.

Also on the list are professional golfers Frank Mwinuka and Hassan Kadio.

and Hamisi Ally, Salim Mwanyeza, Frank Roman, Elisante Lembrice, Nuru Mollel, Jimmy Mollel, Salim Dilunga, Rodrick John, David Helela and Bryson Nyenza.
