A man has been arrested in connection with a hit and run which left a pedestrian dead.

Gary MacDonald Graham, 57, from Wrexham, died at the scene of the collision on the A534 Llan-y-Pwll link road just after midnight on Thursday.

A 57 year-old lorry driver from the Lancashire area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Supt Steve Williams said: “The family are aware of these developments and will continue to be supported by specially trained police officers.

“I would like to express my thanks to members of the public for their continued assistance in the investigation and I again appeal for anyone with further information to contact police on 101 reference U084673.

“Our thoughts remain with Gary’s family and friends.”

Mr MacDonald was pronounced dead at the scene.

His heartbroken family have paid tribute to the former member of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards who fought at the battle of Tumbledown during the Falklands War.

In a statement the family said; “He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

“He is reunited at last with his wife Sian Graham who was his first love.”

The tragedy happened near Wrexham Golf Club.
