Manchester United are back in the Champions League this season and Jose Mourinho made it three wins out of three in the competition this campaign against Benfica.

Mourinho claimed it would be 'easy' to guess his starting XI due to the number of injuries in the squad.

Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Marouane Fellaini were all still sidelined but Marcus Rashford was ruled fit after Mourinho announced he had picked up a knock on international duty before the Liverpool game.

And he proved the difference - with his goal securing United the three points.

Marcos Rojo travelled with the squad to Portugal but is still a couple of weeks away from making his return.

In other news, Josh Bohui's brilliant late solo effort earned the U19s a draw in the UEFA Youth League. Nicky Butt's side sit top of the table with seven points.

It was difficult but Benfica is a good team and they defend well with some experienced players in the team. It felt good. I spent five years here it felt good to be back.

I didn’t feel anything I felt happy to play and want the team to get the win.

Matic on Mourinho's game plan

Speaking to BT Sport Matic confirmed Mourinho had told them to test the young keeper:

We scored a goal from a free kick and we had more chances in the second half. We played well enough to take the three points in a very difficult stadium.

The manager said we had to try to shoot to get some crosses in to him because he is young and it’s his first game but this is football and I know he is a great goalkeeper.

We had control and we had some difficulties in the first 30 minutes but after that we had control of the pitch and we used our experience and we kept the ball after scoring and we didn’t make any mistakes at the back.
