Bubba Watson, a two-time Masters champion and one of the sport’s most popular golfers, has committed to play in next month’s Shriners Hospital for Children Open at TPC Summerlin, officials announced today.
It’s a notable draw for the Las Vegas PGA Tour stop, which often struggles piecing together a field of players with name recognition because the event is contested early in the PGA season.
Tournament director Patrick Lindsey said Watson’s agent told him, “It’s a good time to come support the Las Vegas community,” in response to the area’s recovery from the Strip mass shooting.
Watson has 11 all-time tour wins, including in 2012 and 2014 at the Masters. The Shriners tournament is Nov. 2-5.
“It helps us tremendously,” Lindsey said. “It brings notoriety to the event and our mission of helping the hospital.”
Tickets are $35. Children under the age of 18 are free with a paid adult.
